Creativity and talent have always been dealt in spades when it comes to music, arts and sports in the North-east region. With the lack of infrastructure and avenues such talents have not received the spotlight.
But the competition format of popular reality TV shows has seen the creation of several platforms like India’s Got Talent and Indian Idol where such talents from all over the country have the opportunity to compete and showcase their talents.
Here is a list of people from the North-east who have made the region proud by facing off against some of the most talented people in the country and have proven that it is not for nothing that India is looking towards North-east as the next creative inspiration.
1. Manik Paul

Winner: India’s Got Talent Season 6, 2015
Manik Paul - an aerial artist - is this year’s winner of India’s Got Talent Season 6. Hailing from Barpeta district of Assam, Manik mesmerized his audience with his stunning aerial acrobats. His next stop is Bollywood, so keep a look out for him
2. Ketholeno Kense

Winner: Kingfisher Supermodels Hunt, 2014
Born and raised in Dimapur, Nagaland, Ketholeno Kense became one of the most glamourous faces after winning the Kingfisher Supermodels Hunt 2014. Till date, she has made it to the covers of more fashion magazines than any other model from the North-east. With her unconventional looks, Ketholeno has been making heads turn wherever she goes.
3. The Shillong Chamber Choir

Winner: India’s Got Talent Season 2, 2010
This talented group from Meghalaya won the hearts of millions of India and the coveted title of India’s Got Talent Season 2 in 2010. Their ability to effortlessly blend Bollywood music, Khasi folk songs and English songs in a choir format entrances people. The Shillong Chamber Choir also brought India's first gold medal at the World Choir Olympics in China, 2010. Plus they also performed for the U.S. President, Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, during their November 2010 state visit to India.
4. Divine Connection
Winner: MTV Rock On 2010 (Desi Beats)
Despite not having a strong grasp of Hindi, Divine Connection – a rock band from Nagaland - outperformed some of the best rock bands in India with their immense talent. Their finale performance of the Bollywood classic ‘Aa Dekhein Zaara’ impressed all those who heard them and cemented their position as the ‘Best Rock Band in India’.
5. Sourabhee Debbarma

Winner: Indian Idol Season 4, 2009
When Sourabhee Debbarma was crowned the first female winner of Indian Idol Season 4 in 2009, the streets of Agartala witnessed unprecedented celebrations. Apart from being the first female winner of the popular contest, she was also the first tribal from the North-east to win. Interestingly, Sourabhee - who hails from Tripura - also broke the Guinness World Record when she sang a song hanging upside down for 4 minutes and 30 seconds.
6. Isaac Kario

Winner: Super Fight League Champion, 2012
Isaac Kario, who originally hails from Karong village in Senapati district of Manipur, first heard about the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 2012. This lead to a string of events starting with him quitting his job as a flight attendant with Jet Airways and ending with him becoming the first-ever Champion of Super Fight League Challengers.
